Editorial Reviews for  'Reach for the Moon: Poetry and Short Stories'

Product Description
The poems and short stories in this book are mostly chronicles of the author’s life but some are inspired by her imagination. She leaves it to her readers to decide which is which. Life can be joyful and heartbreaking. It’s not for the timid. It’s a learning experience and sometimes the lessons are tough. Always eager for the new, Marcia grabs at life as if it were a runaway kite, lets it take her where it will, then writes about her experiences. When her son was facing a decision he asked for advice. The only advice she gave him was, “Reach for the moon, my son; the least you’ll come up with is a handful of stars.” Hence, at his suggestion, the title of this book.

Very Best Read in a Very Long Time
"Reach for the Moon"
Authored by Marcia Townsend

From the fond memorium of "Calliope Weeps" to wings catching the winds of tomorrow in "On This Day," we are treated to the sensitive best of Marcia Townsend's brilliant muse. In "Kilauea," the Goddess Pele is woven into Marcia's sparkling Hawaiian stroll. "Pampering and Poverty" made me cry for reasons which will be obvious when you read it. "Juncture"? Yes, we have all had ships which passed us in the night, opportunities lost, and what haunts us is the possibility that we may have suicided a dream. Page after page, poem after poem, Marcia tumbles us through a montage of our own emotional selves. Well done!

You truly cannot read even one of these poems without receiving the gift of a smile, and mayhap a catch in your breath and a tug in your heart. Perhaps this is why Marcia is thought to be one of the major contemporary American poets. I dare the gentle reader to absorb "Louise's Secret" and learn how Marcia Townsend uses wordcrafting to lure imagination into new and surprising paths.
If a reader possessed the disposition of a stone, he might be able to get through "Sunrise ... Sunset" without shedding a tear. This is the first of several short stories rounding out "Reach for the Moon" and Marcia's smooth narrative style packs a wallop.

After a lifetime navigating the world seven times (and she talked to everyone twice), Marcia has done all the heavy-lifting for we readers, and she brings it all back to us in verse and prose which inspires, makes us laugh and cry and, most of all, she stuns us with thoughts and emotions which are our own. How did she do that? Well, the answer is the mark of a master wordcrafter.

"If you reach for the moon
the least you'll end up with
is a handful of stars." This excerpt from "Reaching" was a small thing that she taught to her son, Ken, and it sums up the real-life inspiration of poetry penned by Marcia Townsend as published in "Reach for the Moon" -- a must-have for all who appreciate poetry and fine writing.

A Memorable Read!
I have just read Marcia Townsend's book, "Reach For the Moon" and it is an outstsanding achievement! She has taken the straw of everyday and spun it into beautiful images, with her golden words. This is a book I will read often and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves poetry and short stories. I know that some of her poetry will always be with me now for the wisdom I found within them!

Reach for the Moon
Marcia Townsend's poetry and stories in her book Reach for the Moon is a pure delight!! I have the prividge of owning this book. I have and continue to enjoy every word. One of the best poetry/story books out for sale, if not THE best. The poem "This Thing We Do" is such an exploration of why any writer does write. Pages full of inspiration and joy.

Truly a treasure
Reach for the Moon is a beautiful collection of writing that will leave one just plain feeling good. In reading, one will be truly enriched.

Brilliant Flights of Literary Grace
A single poem or story by Marcia Townsend (Miller-Twiford) can take a reader into depths of literary grace, beauty, and wisdom that few ever expect to encounter simply by giving their attention to words. With that in mind, it takes little to imagine how thrilling one may find it to sit down with this aptly titled volume, REACH FOR THE MOON, and blissfully enjoy one page after another, not only achieving that poetic flight to the moon, but traveling far beyond into glittering galaxies of the author's mind, heart, and soul.
