Customer Reviews for  'The Economist'

Perhaps the Best Weekly Out There!
I continue to be amazed at the breadth and depth of coverage in the Economist. Between general world news, science, technology, medicine, business and even book reviews. This is like Time on steriods. The only caveat I have about the Economist is the length of time it takes to read - it is a couple hour per week adventure. If you need ONE news and business magazine - this is the one to subscribe to.

Brilliant. And concise.
Having read the Economist for several years now I didn't realize how their writing had spoiled me until I sat down with a NY Times. The Economist conveys more information in 5 paragraphs than the NYT does in 5 pages. When you're sick of ego driven, paid-by-the-word drivel, grab the Economist. The obituaries alone are often worth the price. This is the gold standard and well worth your time and money.

The magazine is excellent, but don't buy it here
I am a fan of the magazine and think it's one of the best news/current affairs publications out there.

However...

my wife and I received a subscription as a wedding gift. It took a more than 4 months to finally get activated. In that time, no one at the economist would help me ('talk to Harvardbooksellers'), and no one at Harvardbooksellers would help me - first, I had to get the friend who bought it for us to talk to them, which was a hassle. Second, they told him that everything was fine and that (guess what?) he'd have to chase it up with the economist.

Finally the subscription did surface and the magazines started arriving... like many people, we'd moved after the wedding. It took me several phone calls, emails, and attempts to use the online database (and another two months) to get my address successfully changed in the economist's database. You'd think that the economist, of all things, would have an efficient business operation.

So after 6 months (!) we're finally getting the magazine as we should be.

If you want the economist, I'd recommend subscribing directly from the economist's website itself, and not going through a middle-man like amazon.

Cuts through the "fluff"
I love the economist. Not a whole bunch of advertisements or articles about "how great Mr. X businessman is". Gives facts about current events in the world.

I was concerned that the articles would be slightly behind due to its weekly instead of daily publication, but I find that I get my daily news through other sources, and supplement with the Economist. The Economist goes in much more depth than most daily publications.

great magazine
This is an all around great magazine if you like to keep up with current events. Especially with all the economic ups and downs right now, it is full of information. In many ways, I like it more than a newspaper, and it is published weekly. Worth the money for the subscription. Also I checked several discounts and it was cheaper through Harvardbooksellers.
