Remove large amounts of snow in no time. View larger. |
The lift handle makes it easy to move. | Fast, Effective Snow Removal with the Power Curve System Toro's patented Power Curve System employs a unique, curved rotor and a funnel-shaped housing, in addition to wide rubber paddles that propel the machine forward and clean all the way down to the pavement. This technology lets you move more snow in less time, and it virtually eliminates clogging, so you can be confident that your snow thrower will be ready the next time a winter storm comes your way. With a snow removal capacity of 700 pounds per minute, the Power Curve lets you clear four inches of snow off a 50-by-20-foot driveway in just 10 minutes. The machine's clearing width of 18 inches means that you can clear most walkways with just one or two quick passes. And with a snow cut depth of 10 inches per pass, you won't need to repeat work you've already done, unless you're in the middle of a serious blizzard. Compact and Easy to Maintain with Electric Power With no gas or oil to burn through, no spark plugs to change, and no time-consuming tune-ups, this electric snow thrower is a cost-effective, eco-friendly option. Its compact size makes it easier to maneuver than big, gas-powered units, and it's easier to store, too. This makes an electric unit like the Toro 1800 ideal for small spaces like porches, decks, and patios. When you do want to clear a large area, you'll appreciate the surprisingly powerful nature of this lightweight unit. It features a reliable, series-wound 12 Amp motor, which is designed to produce high torque and operate at relatively low speeds, making it a perfect choice for snow-throwing. The cord lock system eliminates one of the potential downfalls of using electric products by ensuring your extension cord is reliably locked in place. And with electric power, this snow thrower is easy to start up. Even on the coldest days, it's as simple as squeezing the trigger on the control bar and releasing it when you want to stop. There's no priming or frustrating cord pulling. Convenient, Ergonomic Features for a Long Life The trigger is conveniently placed on an ergonomically designed handle for comfort and ease of use, while a key lock means you never have to worry about unauthorized use. Additionally, a remote crank chute and deflector give you full 180-degree adjustability, so it's easy to throw snow anywhere you want. And a specially-designed lift handle on the top of this 24-pound unit takes the awkwardness out of moving your snow thrower from your garage to your porch or tucking it in your vehicle. This snow thrower is backed by a full two-year warranty. What's in the Box Snow blower, parts needed for assembly, and operators manual.

Generally very solid |
I ordered a Toro 1800 electric before winter started in Wisconsin. We set an all-time record for December snow, so I got plenty of practice with this. The Toro started off working really well, but then the larger belt slipped on about the 4th or 5th time I used it. I called Harvardbooksellers and they immediately shipped a new one.
Since I've received the new one (over a month and about 40" of snow), it's been great. I've had no problems. It handled a 13" snowfall a few weeks ago. Granted, it takes awhile, and the 1800 isn't super heavy-duty, but it's able to chip away at the huge piles and make pretty good progress. For anything under 8", the Toro electric is perfect. I'm able to finish our pretty decent-sized driveway and sidewalk in under 20 minutes. When shoveling it by hand, it took over an hour.
So I have some reservations about the belt falling off, but with the second unit I received I've had no problems at all. |

Excellent Snow Blower |
|
The Toro 1800 is a terrific alternative to the traditional, gas powered models. It is light weight and easily handles snow depths of 6-8 inches. It is not noisy and you won't miss the gas fumes. Best of all, squeeze the handle and it starts. There is the issue of cord management but with a little care, it isn't too much of a problem. |

Tiny but powerful |
As a Wisconsin resident that has always used a shovel, I finally decided to get a snow thrower this year. I am not handy with machines, and don't have gas hanging around in my garage, so an electric was perfect.
This product does a great job for its size. It is not as powerful as those large gas powered ones, but I can easily clear my driveway with this, and it is light enough my wife carries it through the house to do the back porch (something my neighbor can't do with his big rig).
It is powerful, but will not handle what the city plow leaves at the base of the driveway. You can hit that in layers if it is thick, but it stil works. We have had 40" of snow so far this year, and I am very happy with the purchase. |

The little snowblower that could |
I've had this snowblower through half of a Chicago winter so far, including three big storms, and it's indispensable. No louder than a vacuum cleaner, this electric wonder cut right through everything Mother Nature dropped on my driveway. Think this snowblower is for weaklings and hippies? Think again.
Assembly was easy, consisting of attaching the handle and chute. The instructions were pretty detailed, so even a novice can have everything put together in a half hour. The body of the snowblower is plastic, which concerned me at first, but it's held up so far.
There's practically no maintenance required for the Toro 1800. You just plug it in and get down to business. Since it's lightweight, you can steer it anywhere you want. You might need to make a couple passes over an area, though, if the snowblower decides it wants to roll above the snow instead of through it. The rear wheels are hard to see in the product photos, but they really are the small, plastic kind that other people warn about in their reviews. Some extra traction would be nice, but I'm sure I can replace the wheels with something more substantial, or wrap a big rubber band around them if need be.
My co-workers weren't sure an electric snowblower was the best idea for someone living in Chicago, but it's turned out to be a solid investment, and it certainly beats shoveling! |

I needed this SO bad! |
|
We have gotten buried with snow this year. It was getting really hard to throw the snow from the shovel at all, or high enough! This is easy to use (just be really careful controlling where your electrical cord is at all times). It's very light, you can lift it easily, clean steps or porches, it cleaned right down to the ground. It's easy to handle compared to pushing a big snowblower around. When we had a freeze after the snow, and I wanted to protect it, I just put it in my kitchen! It does throw the snow quite a distance, does great on light snow, but requires a few passes to take down high or heavy stuff. It's like a munchkin snowblower!! Very happy so far. |
